Greetings Spartan Families,
This past week, all K - 2 scholars have learned the choreographed warm up for Saint-SaĆ«ns’ “Fossils”, from his larger work, Carnival of the Animals. If you play a recording of “Fossils”, your scholar may remember their groovy dance moves!
šµ Kindergarteners have encountered their first folk songs and are learning how to use their best, inside singing voices. Some of our favorite chants/songs at the moment are Bee, Bee, Bumblebee, Engine, Engine #9, and Down in the Meadow.
šµ First Graders are reviewing Kinder concepts, including a review of high and low melody & chant, fast & slow tempo, and will soon be writing high and low melodies as well. Our new folk songs of the week are… Doggie, Doggie and Down in the Meadow.
šµ Second Graders are reviewing First Grade concepts, focusing primarily on a review of the aural presentation of the solfege syllables/pitches: mi, sol, and la. Our new folk songs of the week are… Plainsies, Clapsies, Closet Key, and No Robbers Out Today. Each of these songs go along with a GAME! Woo hoo!

Spanish
Grades K - 2, Mrs. Huerta (elidia.huerta@greatheartswesternhills.org)
What a great start to the first quarter! Scholars are enjoying their Spanish classes, as we learn the basics of Spanish. We have started with the calendar routine, the colors, the days of the week, the months, and the seasons. In kindergarten and first grade, our focus has been on songs, and participation. In second grade, we have concentrated on vocabulary. Scholars translate their words and provide beautiful classwork. This week in Spanish students learned to tell what their names are by answering the question, “Como te llamas tu?” Students answered the question using the phrase “Me llamo”. Students drew a self-portrait and labeled it with the answer “Me llamo” and added their name.
Grades 3 - 5, Ms. Castro (e.castrogonzalez@greatheartswesternhills.org)
