Music

Grades K - 2, Ms. Burciaga (kiana.burciaga@greatheartswesternhills.org)

Happy October!

As we enter a new month, we continue to hone in our singing skills to prepare for the Winter Concert. This week, you will receive information about the K - 2 Winter Concert - date, time, venue, dress guidelines, and mandatory participation. We are very excited for you all to put this important event into your family's calendar!

🎵 Kindergarten: Our Kinders have enjoyed their favorite folk songs using their loud and soft voices. We have practiced this concept kinesthetically, aurally, and visually. This week, we will practice writing the words, "loud" and "soft", in a listening and writing activity.
The composer of the month for October is Joseph Haydn.

🎵 First Grade: First Graders are now identifying the difference between long and short sounds with ease! This week, we will name long sounds as "ta" and short sounds as "ta-di". We will also enjoy our favorite folk songs by singing with ta and ta-di, and we may even test our knowledge by reading the REAL musical notation! Hello quarter and eighth notes! 🥳
The composer of the month for October is Felix Mendelssohn.

🎵 Second Grade: Second Graders, in their practice of folk songs like Rocky Mountain, King's Land, and Knock the Cymbals, have practiced the concept of solfege syllable do kinesthetically, aurally, and visually. This week, they will finally name their lowest solfege sound as do! We will also encounter a song called Blue. Blue is a sad song - this is a song that only Ms. Burciaga sings to teach the importance of creating music or poems about things that are very special to us. Folk songs like Blue can become so popular and special that they are passed from generation to generation for many, many years!
The composer of the month for October is Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel.

Grades 3 - 5, Ms. Smith (stephanie.smith@greatheartswesternhills.org)

Hello Spartans!

In Music we are steadily learning our concert repertoire!

Next week, our composers of the month change. This means we get to listen to new masterworks from our famous composers!

Last week, we worked on identifying and understanding tempo markings. We did this using a special game of "Simon Says" using tempo markings to follow the called-out instructions.

Ww also sang our concert repertoire, changing our tempo markings, to see what it did to the music!

The scholars should know what it means to sing or walk/run Andante, Lento, Allegro, and Presto!
