Students will have a mirror in front of them and practice drawing their reflection.

Kinder scholar with Palmette replica

In first grade, we just finished our Pablo Picasso Mother and Child (1922) replicas. Next week, we will be doing quick drawing like Picasso. Students will learn and study single line artworks done by Picasso. Students will be tasked with trying to draw different animals without lifting the pencil off the paper and using only a single line.

In second grade, we have been working on Pablo Picasso inspired self portraits. Students are making organic and geometric shapes out of construction paper and building an abstract self portrait.

Music

Grades K - 2, Ms. Burciaga (kiana.burciaga@greatheartswesternhills.org)

Last week, our K - 2 musicians experienced their first Winter Concert pieces!

In the next week, our K - 2 musicians will be exploring new concepts in our curriculum and continuing concert rehearsal procedures!

🎵 Kindergarteners have met Mr. Sun (daytime voice) and Mrs. Moon (nighttime voice) through our favorite chants, as a full class. Mr. Sun and Mrs. Moon have very different voices! Scholars will be able to create a visual representation of a loud and soft voice. Some scholars will also have the opportunity to lead the class with loud and soft chanting & singing. Loud and soft are secret words right now - so please don’t share! Kinder will also learn the American folk song, Teddy Bear.

The composer of the month is the German-British Baroque composer, G. F. Handel!

🎵 First Graders recently enjoyed their new folk song, Ducks and Geese, which involved attention to detail in a call-and-response style. This was the scholars’ first instance of a song with two characters with many lines! First graders will be building upon their Kinder knowledge in order to discover the difference between one and two sounds on a single beat. We will utilize our tried & true chants and songs in order to learn about quarter and eighth notes. Quarter notes and eighth notes are secret words - so please don’t share!

The composer of the month is the German-Austrian Romantic composer, Franz Schubert!

🎵 Second Graders are on the path to discovering what the solfege pitch, “do”, is all about! During our new songs, King’s Land and Rocky Mountain, scholars are internalizing do’s pitch as a skip lower than mi. Do is a secret word right now - so please don’t share! Second graders will soon encounter the new folk songs titled, Here Comes a Bluebird and Sea Shell, which will allow them to test their knowledge about musical form and phrasing.

The composer of the month is the Italian-British Classical composer, Muzio Clementi!

Grades 3 - 5, Ms. Smith (stephanie.smith@greatheartswesternhills.org)

Next week in music we will be learning more about the masterworks from our composers of the month!

3rd Grade: Georg Fridreric Handel

Hi everyone,

This was an exciting week! Our theme was family. The students had the opportunity to share about their families. The students were able to make a family tree and apply adjectives to describe their family. Next week, we will talk about friends and the things they like to do with their friends. We will learn a poem and songs related to the theme of “friends”.

We are looking forward to a wonderful week!
