What a joyous return back to school! It’s been great fun learning names, moving and grooving, and singing new and old songs to start the year off strong!
Here’s what’s coming up in the Music Room next week:
Kindergarten will continue to explore their five voices. A special slimy visitor will also come to visit and share a new song and game! Who will it be?
🌟 Our Composer Spotlight is on George F. Handel! Take a listen to Handel’s Air in G Major!
First Grade is getting back into the groove of Music class by remembering our class dance to Fossils from Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saens. Along with grooves, scholars will continue building confidence with more solo singing opportunities in games this week like Lucy Locket and Queen, Queen Caroline.
🌟 Our Composer Spotlight is on Johann S. Bach. Take a listen to Bach’s Invention in A minor!
Second Graders will experience just what it's like to move like a conductor! We'll be exploring different meters in music and moving to the beat with jingle ribbon wands. Scholars will also demonstrate their knowledge of musical form for different folk songs like King's Land and Knock the Cymbals.
🌟 Our Composer Spotlight is on Giovanni Pierluigi de Palestrina! Take a listen to Palestrina’s Missa Papae Marcelli!

As we enter Week 3, we will continue to recall important concepts from music last year while jumping into new ways to practice them. Scholars will share their talents by practicing rhythmic patterns on drums, singing solfege patterns, and identifying melodies played on Boomwhackers. Scholars will also be practicing their music reading skills in our treble and bass clefs to prepare for whole-class song playing and performing. Each class period, we work as a team to meet expectations and move our class composers up our piano chart with the goal of exceeding expectations each day! Who will get to the top first? Mozart, Schumann, Bach, Vivaldi? Stay tuned! ♫ ♪ ♬
K - 2 SPANISH
Mrs. Huerta - elidia.huerta@greatheartstxschools.org
What a great start to the first quarter! Scholars are enjoying their Spanish classes, as we learn the basics of Spanish. We have started with the calendar routine, the colors, the days of the week, the months, and the seasons. In kindergarten and first grade, our focus has been on songs, and participation. In second grade, we concentrated on vocabulary. Scholars translate their words and provide beautiful classwork. For comprehension checks, we have competitive games. This week in Spanish students learned to tell what their names are by answering the question, “Como te llamas tu?” Students answer the question using the phrase “Me llamo”. Students drew a self-portrait and labeled it with the answer “Me llamo” and added their name.
3 - 5 SPANISH

We’ve had an incredible start to the school year! Our scholars have been enjoying getting to know each other, practicing greetings, and sharing their favorite things- all in Spanish! As we move into Week 2, we’re excited to introduce calendar activities. Our scholars will learn the days of the week, months of the year and how to express dates in Spanish. By Week 3, we’ll dive into the seasons and tell the time, with scholars practicing their Spanish through fun activities and beginning to write simple sentences. Each class is filled with teamwork, engaging games, and exciting ways to learn. We’re having so much fun while mastering our calendar skills and Spanish language!
