Kindergarten: Exploring Henri Matisse!
Our kindergarten artists are diving into the world of Henri Matisse this week! We’ll be reading the delightful story “Henri’s Scissors,” which tells the tale of how Matisse created his famous cut-outs. Students will then put their scissor skills to the test as they craft their very own Matisse-inspired masterpieces!

First Grade: Picasso and His Pets
First graders are continuing their study of Pablo Picasso, exploring the artist’s life and his love for unusual pets. Did you know Picasso once owned an owl? We’ll be learning about some of the wild animals Picasso kept and creating line drawings of our own imaginary animals!

Second Grade: Picasso Masterpieces
Our second graders are busy adding the finishing touches to their Picasso-inspired masterpieces. They’ve been working hard to bring their unique visions to life, and we can’t wait to see their completed artworks!

3rd Grade has been learning about Vincent Van Gogh. Next week we will recreate The Starry Night!

4th Grade has been practicing drawing skills with exercises that work the left side of the brain!  For example:  What do you see?  Some people see two different pictures in this!

5th Grade has been working on self portraits. Next week we will be drawing profiles.

K - 2 MUSIC

Mrs. Ybarra - kiana.ybarra@greatheartstxschools.org

This week, scholars in all grade levels have begun singing their warm-ups, focusing on a soft singing voice, correct posture, and enunciation of the lyrics. Coming up, we will be adding dance scarves into the mix to show just how flexible and light our growing voices can be!

Kindergarten - what a week it has been! Wolfie the Not-So-Ferocious Wolf has joined in our new group singing game of We Are Dancing in the Forest; he's certainly brought smiles and laughter to our classroom!
Taking turns with friends can be tough at times, but our new motto is A Patient Heart Finds Joy in the Waiting. Let's remember this as we step into a new week filled with new games and activities!
Our composer spotlight is now on Antonio Vivaldi. We've been enjoying his Concerto No. 4 in F Major, "Winter". Take a listen!

First Grade has reviewed Kinder movement folk songs like Bee, Bee, Bumblebee and Down Came a Lady. Moving and grooving is so important in our room - we develop our steady beat, listening ears and watchful eyes, and discover the joyful community we are building together! Coming up, we'll begin focusing on patterns in music with long and short sounds, by utilizing tactile items to represent the patterns we hear.
We've moved our composer spotlight onto Muzio Clementi. At the moment, we've been listening to his Sonatina No. 3 in C Major, Spirtoso. What a joyful sound!

Second Grade has made their way to learning about music notation! Kindergarten and First Grade learn elements of music notation, but Second Grade is where we put all of our information and facts together. Next week, we will take apart a folk song learned in Kindergarten and apply what we know. We will continue our review of the classic folk song, Doggie, Doggie, and practice our solo singing voices. It takes bravery and confidence - you can do it Second Graders!
We've also shined the spotlight on a different composer, Henry Purcell! Want to hear his music? Lend your ear to The Fairy Queen!

Ms. Gard - beverly.gard@greatheartstxschools.org

Hello, Spartan Families!

Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grade had a fun week in music class jumping into new concepts and continuing to practice singing, performance, and music reading skills! Shoutout to classes 3C, 4C, and 5C for winning the composer competition for the month of August! A new month has begun and many classes are already on their way up the piano with their composer going above and beyond expectations each day!

Third Grade scholars can look forward to continuing to learn how to read musical notes and focusing on the great musical works of Antonio Vivaldi and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in the coming week!

Fourth Grade will take a deeper dive into Bass Clef while understanding how Treble and Bass Clef work together to form the Grand Staff of all notes! Fourth Graders will also begin to look at form in music and how we can organize musical thoughts, similar to stanzas in poetry.

Fifth Grade scholars will continue to call upon their knowledge of reading musical notation as they build and play a major scale in the coming week. Additionally, scholars will begin listening to and analyzing the music of the Renaissance period.

Hello Spartans!

This week, our students had a great time reviewing numbers and counting all the way up to 100! We also practiced reading the clock in Spanish, a skill they can use every day.

Looking ahead, students will be taking their first Spanish quiz, and we’re diving into the Spanish alphabet, focusing on vowels, and consonants. These building blocks will help them begin writing simple, complete sentences in Spanish.
