Art Adventures This Week!

In Kindergarten, we’re exploring the wonderful world of shapes! This week, we read Round is a Mooncake, a story that helped us find shapes all around us. Inspired by the book, we’ll be creating our own goldfish bowls using the shapes we’ve learned about!

In First Grade, our artists are diving into the world of Pablo Picasso! We will learn about his style and create our own replicas of his beautiful painting, Mother and Child (1922).

In Second Grade, we’re learning all about Picasso’s Cubism! We’ll start with a fun game called “Roll a Picasso,” where we’ll roll dice to create unique Picasso-style faces. Then, we’ll move on to creating our own Picasso-inspired self-portraits, experimenting with shapes and different perspectives!

3rd Grade this week has been practicing the element of art : Line; next week we will begin a replica of Van Gogh’s Starry Night!

4th Grade students have been working on strengthening their drawing skills by attempting to draw images upside down.  This is a great tool to use because we can identify shapes more than an image we are familiar with.  Below are two students that really excelled in the drawing challenge.

5th Grade is working on self portraits and learning the dimensions of the face and how the facial features relate to each other. Next week we will use a mirror to try and capture likeness!

Hello, Spartan Families!

This past week, we finished our review of concepts from last year with rhythms, note names, and music vocabulary. Next week we will jump into learning new musical concepts!

Third Grade will begin learning how to identify and name treble clef notes to prepare our minds for reading music! They can also look forward to their first composer of Third Grade, Antonio Vivaldi. Looking ahead, we will also learn all about the string family of instruments.

Fourth Grade will begin expanding upon their knowledge of note names and begin learning how to identify bass clef notes on the grand staff. We will also begin our deep dive into the Classical Era of music!

Fifth Grade will continue practicing solfege while adding a new note to our warm ups, high do. We will be building our scale up and begin looking at notes on a piano keyboard, using what we already know about reading music and applying it to instrument techniques.

Next week we'll be learning about La escuela (school) and what is in our school.

Hello Spartan Family!

Our students had a great week learning about the weather and season in Spanish. Through a mix of group activities and individual work, each student practiced their Spanish writing and speaking skills. They completed their projects with a quick speech presentation about their assigned season.

Looking ahead:

This coming week, students will be introduced to the numbers and telling time. They will have more opportunities to practice writing and speaking through fun and engaging activities.
